Encyclopedia of the Speech Workshop (Atelier Encyclopédie de la parole)
French director and MITsp 2018 artist in focus, Joris Lacoste will conduct a workshop with 12 Brazilians, six women and six men (parity is important for the director), as continuation of the Encyclopedie de la Parole project – a collective work that seeks to cross-examine the diversity of speeches and oral expressions. The first part of the activity will be based on research and selection of documents that can establish a sound landscape made of sayings and accents, present in the city of São Paulo, such as: domestic dialogues, market and fair talks, subway ads, political speeches, TV commercials, jargon of radio presenters or television programs, street shops’ informal advertisements, speeches of street vendors, etc. The participating artists will then work with this material to create a “stage restitution” of the chosen documents. The activity will have a translator, but some knowledge of English is desirable. For the atelier, those selected should use their cell phones, tablets or laptops and know how to deal with the audio features available in the electronic devices they bring. They should also be familiar with internet resources. It is important that all participants begin to record the above mentioned words (always identifying its origin), because if they are selected, they will already have their own “speech bank”.
