Synopsis
The soundtrack of this performative show comes from the enraged protesting voices led by student movements on the Soweto streets. It uses the ridiculous present in today’s songs to scorn the vanguard of an incomplete revolution. The title Revolting Music – Inventory of Protest Songs That Released South Africa hints at an unusual link between political discourse and the over exploited pop repertoire of the music industry. Starting from strongly engaged protest songs and their rebellious and challenging elements, the show moves towards the contemporary romantic music, characterized by it’s sickening and nauseating melodic elements. In the end, the performance results in a libertarian and contagious sound. Muyanga tinkers with this resulting musicality to reimagine other forms of change and a possible new fight to find love within a revolution idea.
