The experience exchange between Brazilian and international artists, proved to be a successful and very positive experience throughout the editions of MITsp. This edition’s program contemplates, not only the meetings with international guest artists of the festival, where they share their creative processes with the participants, but we’ll also have a dialogue about the urgent themes of Brazil’s actuality. It is a unique opportunity for Brazilian students and professionals to experience these forms of creative resistance alongside with leading names of the world’s artistic scene.

ARTISTIC RESIDENCY

ACTS OF RESISTANCE I

Palestinian theater director Ihab Zahdeh, cofounder and artistic director of Yes Theater, Hebron (south of West Bank), comes to São Paulo exclusively to give a three weeks workshop on collective creation. The workshop starting point will be the relation between Brazilian’s and Palestinian’s realities, based on the premise of creative resistance. The residency’s goal is to develop scenic fragments, based on improvisations, that may incorporate different artistic languages, such as dance and music, without losing the political and aesthetic approach. The result will be presented to the public at the end of the residency. This is a unique experience of creative exchange with a Middle Eastern professional with international trajectory and who recently created a show with Japanese actors of the Tokyo Engeki Ensemble in Japan. Candidates shall have full availability for the residency. 12 professional artists will be chosen.

Target audience: actors and performers, as well as musicians, singers and dancers who also have experience on stage

Selection: Submission of a résumé and a brief text, preferably non bureaucratic, that answers the questions: “What does creative resistance mean to you? And how to creatively resist in face of the various forms of occupation existing today?”. CVs without the answers will be disregarded.

ACTS OF RESISTANCE II

High school Students Performative Actions

Exploiting the energy generated by schools occupations in São Paulo, 2015, and throughout Brazil, in 2016 – a form of protesting against the government decisions regarding the educational system – MITsp proposes a creative exchange with high school students, under the direction of the actress and performer Martha Kiss Perrone. This activity will result in an artistic intervention in which the teenagers may express their voice and their yearnings. The participants come from a previous formed group gathered over last year’s occupations. Support: Maria Fernanda Vomero.

EXPRESS MYSELF BEYOND MY SKIN, with Ntando Cele

How can we protest against injustice without feeling despised or hopeless? Engaging with inner cares creates space not only for reflection, but also for challenging the status quo. The workshop will creatively explore ways to use personal skills to influence a positive transformation, or at least, raise the awareness about the need for change. In this activity, the South African artist Ntando Cele, accompanied by her team of collaborators, will reflect on her work as a performer, the circumstances on which she develops her creations and also possible collaboration formulas. 20 participants will be selected.

Target audience: actors, performers, curators of artistic activities and activists of social movements

Selection: short résumé submission; submission of a photo that shows how you reveal yourself to the world; and a simple text, preferably non bureaucratic, answering the questions:
