Synopsis
In 2013, Jorge Mateluna collaborated in the creation of Escuela, which talks about the urban guerrilla schools of the 1980s. The show was presented in the first edition of the MITsp. Mateluna, who was imprisoned for 12 years, shared with the group led by Guillermo Calderón his history as a militant of the Patriotic Front Manuel Rodriguez. While the play was touring, still in 2013, Mateluna was arrested on charges of bank robbery. The ethical and artistic issues encountered by the group in face of this prison motivated the creation of a new show, entitled Mateluna, that works practically as a continuation of Escuela. The performance has a political nature and discusses justice, memory and recognition to those who fought against the dictatorship. The show premiered in October 2016 in Berlin at the festival The Aesthetics of Resistance – Peter Weiss 100, at the Hau Hebbel Am Ufer Theater.
