PLACE: Mezzanine of SESI-SP
SYNOPSIS
Using festivities and peripheral poetics as research tools, the performance by Ceará- based collective Riddims navigates moments of both celebration and resistance. Through dance and chants, the artists reflect on their ancestries and identities, drawing parallels between Afro-Indigenous spiritual practices and the resistance movements of marginalized communities. By bringing together the sacred and the profane, the comic and the tragic, the work subverts the brutality of colonial logic to keep the act of dreaming alive.
BACKGROUND
Coletivo Riddims is a research platform exploring ancestry, movement, and
peripheral poetics. Founded in 2019 and produced by Encante Território Criativo, the collective has developed initiatives such as BATIDA and BR-JAM, as well as training programs in dancehall, funk, and bregafunk in Fortaleza (CE). The group was part of the Dance Laboratory at Porto Iracema das Artes School, where Baculejo was created under the mentorship of Leonardo França.
Encante Território Criativo is a space for fostering and supporting productions by cultural agents and LGBTQIAPN+, Black, Indigenous, and peripheral communities. The organization aims to assist independent groups, traditional collectives, and social initiatives, with core values centered on ancestry, gender and sexuality expressions, territorial exchange, and creative economy.
