SYNOPSIS
This performance creates a dialogue between different dance lineages, including ballet, jumpstyle, and popular urban dances. Through a provocative approach, it explores the articulation between bodies, contexts, and cultural expressions, highlighting the dynamics and uniqueness of a city like São Paulo. Created, directed, and choreographed by Alejandro Ahmed, the piece features the Orquestra Sinfônica Municipal and Coral Paulistano, conducted by Maíra Ferreira, performing compositions by Romanian composer György Ligeti and Canadian electronic musician Venetian Snares (Aaron Funk).
BACKGROUND
Alejandro Ahmed, a Uruguayan artist based in Brazil, has been the artistic director of the Balé da Cidade de São Paulo (BCSP) since July 2023. Recognized as one of the most prominent choreographers in contemporary dance in Brazil, his artistic approach investigates the intersections between bodies, environments, and technology, pushing the limits of the body and its transformative possibilities. In addition to his work at BCSP, Ahmed is the resident choreographer, artistic director, and dancer at Grupo Cena 11 Cia. de Dança, based in Florianópolis, Santa Catarina. In 2022, as a guest choreographer for BCSP, he created Sixty Eight em Axys Atlas, which remains part of the company repertoire.
