SYNOPSIS
In this free adaptation of The Seagull by Russian playwright Anton Chekhov (1860–1904), five actresses intimately and viscerally embody the play’s central characters. Argentine director Guillermo Cacace brings forth their tragic essence, highlighting the core of the scenes and incorporating the passage of time into the cadence and rhythm of the dialogues. Seated around a table, the performers take on the roles of Arkadina, Kostia, Nina, Trigorin, and Masha. It is through Masha’s perspective that the story unfolds: in this version, with dramaturgy by Juan Ignacio Fernández, it is Masha who attempts to piece together the fragments of a tale marked by unrequited love, shattered dreams, and the lingering pain accumulated over the years.

CRITICAL RECEPTION
“It is breathtaking to see how the actresses bring these characters to life. The extreme precision in their expressions, the heartbreaking anguish. Stripped of any theatrical artifice, Seagull is, above all, a passionate ode to the art of acting.” Luuk Verpaalen, Theaterkrant
“With such sublime performances, nothing else is needed: no set design, no costumes, no movement. The conflicts and pains of the characters feel so real that, at times, the audience experiences a voyeurism that can be almost unsettling.”Ana Vidal Egea, El País
“Performances like Seagull, which challenge all expectations of what representation should be, that do not dictate when to applaud, when to laugh, when to feel moved, and that allow a new and unique sensibility to emerge for each viewer, are the most sacred refuge art will always have against the advance of a virtual, domesticated, and alienated life.” Mercedes Méndez, La Nacion
