SYNOPSIS
Bridging theory and practice, this workshop led by Renato Ihu explores how gestures, dances, and music function as forms of transmitting ancestral knowledge and memory. The sessions draw from research dedicated to the study of Afro-Brazilian cultural expressions as a foundation for understanding civilizational values and the dynamics of the Afro-Atlantic diaspora in Brazil’s Southeast region. Participants are invited to deepen their study of manifestations such as the jongos of the Paraíba Valley, the batuques de umbigada of western São Paulo, and the congados of Minas Gerais, analyzing their relationships to contemporary artistic expressions and to ethnoracial education in the fields of music, dance, and theater.
