SYNOPSIS

The performance is inspired by the dam collapses in the Brazilian cities of Brumadinho and Mariana. The dramaturgy follows the narratives of characters silenced by the death and destruction caused by mining—direct and indirect victims of the country’s largest environmental crime. Grupo Girino’s production involves a multidisciplinary research and experimentation process, integrating visual theater, miniatures, and live cinema techniques.

BACKGROUND

Grupo Girino is a company dedicated to puppetry theater and original dramaturgy. With 18 years of experience and based in Belo Horizonte (MG), the group works collaboratively, exploring the dramatic potential that emerges from the relationship between actors, puppets, objects, and video. The collective has staged 15 productions and participated in hundreds of national and international festivals with performances, interventions, workshops, and educational activities. Since 2012, it has organized FESTIM – the Miniature Theater Festival, which brings small-format works to public spaces like squares and parks.

CRITICAL RECEPTION

“Dismantling creates portraits behind the numbers; it rescues the countless dimensions of these tragedies by revealing the vastness of tiny details. (…) The staging’s narrative shifts from everyday life to the ghostly; from ordinary lives and routines to the post-mud reality. (…) In Grupo Girino’s work, denunciation takes the form of anguish, discomfort, and unease, effectively achieving its intent.” amilton de azevedo, ruína acesa

“The narrative unfolds through more than 160 scenic elements manipulated by actors, who also work with puppets, masks, and scale models, bringing the visuality of the scene to the forefront of the dramaturgy.” Nelio Souto, O Tempo
