Auto Bumba Meu Boi
WITH Grupo Cupuaçu
Grupo Cupuaçu’s dramatic folk performance is driven by dance and music, reconstructing the mythical narrative of Boizinho de São João through the tragicomic portrayal of characters such as Amo, Catirina, Chico, and Vaqueiro. These central figures are joined by Cazumbá, indigenous characters, caboclos de pena, and vaqueiros. The play’s storyline follows the theft of a sacred bull, its subsequent illness, and its eventual healing through the intervention of healers, doctors, and the audience itself.
