SYNOPSIS
This workshop works with gesture and sound emerging from the same impulse. When that impulse—initially produced within—appears to another, the encounter is immediate. From there, many possibilities of shared and intense creation unfold, revealing themselves in the form of music and dance. This way of working was perceived and structured by multi-artist Helder Vasconcelos through his direct relationship with the popular traditions of Pernambuco—cavalo-marinho and rural maracatu—and more than two decades of experience as a workshop facilitator.
BACKGROUND
Helder Vasconcelos is a musician, actor, and dancer. He co-created the Pernambuco-based group Mestre Ambrósio, with whom he worked from 1992 to 2003. He credits his training to his immersion in cavalo-marinho and rural maracatu traditions and to his study of actor training with the Lume group. In his solo career, he created works such as Espiral Brinquedo Meu and Por Si Só. He founded and coordinates the group Boi Marinho, active in the Pernambuco Carnival since 2000. Since 1998, he has developed training programs through workshops, courses, and immersive experiences. He also works as a composer of soundtracks and as a consultant, coach, and director.
