SYNOPSIS
Part of the Dreamlike Landscapes series by stage director and visual artist Wagner Antônio, this installation-performance emerges from the story told in Woyzeck by Georg Büchner, in dialogue with fragments from Antonin Artaud’s radio work To Have Done with the Judgment of God. The piece weaves reflections on dream, madness, death, and memory, grounded in the body, the environment, and the imagination. The audience is invited to move freely through the space, which at a certain moment is activated by a technical crew that invents a ritual for the Sun, while a sunflower slowly dies inside a greenhouse. As in other scenic studies in the series, the work is composed of luminous panels, lighting instruments, screens, projectors, captions, film fragments, sculptural objects, speakers, noises, and distorted voices from theatrical texts.
BACKGROUND
Wagner Antônio is a stage director, lighting designer, and visual artist who for the past ten years has been creating scenic installations and investigating how the integration of light, sound, video, and material objects can “write” a dramaturgy of active forces in space and performatively operate onstage. To develop the works in the Dreamlike Landscapes series, he draws inspiration from urban light signs—which, instead of selling commodities, narrate dreams through color, vibration, rhythm, and movement—within immersive, installative environments. This is a living, performative process that functions as a resonant field for dreams and is structured through cyclical continuity, in which one work unfolds into another, blurring the boundaries between past, present, and future.
