SYNOPSIS
In this solo by performing artist and theater professor Alice Stefânia, a researcher presents ideas around today’s planetary challenges amid environmental collapse. Immersed in contradictions and prophetic dialogues with a plant, she suffers the consequences of a genetic mutation while sharing knowledge, singing her astonishment, enduring breakdowns, and breathing utopias. In this process, the character metamorphoses into a branching woman, embodying an idea that evokes forms of existence from the vegetal, animal, and mineral realms. She perceives branches sprouting from her body like an organic antenna, transforming her into a cyborg-goddess connected to different worlds and times, operating as a crossroads of forces.
BACKGROUND
Teatro do Instante is a collective dedicated to scenic and audiovisual research, founded in 2009. It is affiliated with the research group Poéticas do Corpo (Poetics of the Body) in the Department of Performing Arts at the University of Brasília (UnB), coordinated by professors and artists Alice Stefânia and Rita de Almeida Castro. The group is known for offering its members opportunities for continuing education, collaborative processes with diverse artists, and investigations into immersive poetics and practices of the self—both as forms of self-care and as ways to access states and affects that enhance performative work and deepen research.
CRITICAL RECEPTION
“While Alice Stefânia’s work unsettles through what it addresses and confronts, it also enchants through the way she builds—using body and voice—a form that is at once epic and lyrical, tackling the issue through theatrical language.”
Rafael Villas Bôas, Brasil de Fato
