SYNOPSIS
An apparition of a sonic body. In this work, Panamby reads into a microphone—original texts, silenced stories that throb—while Filipe Espindola transcribes fragments of this speech onto Panamby’s back using an inkless tattoo machine. In the process of scarification, the words emerge blood-soaked on living tissue, generating a new text from an exercise of listening amid verborrhea and cacophony. Simultaneously, Panamby produces layers and sonic textures from the voice, looping, sonic objects, and audio recordings of relatives. As a key aspect of presence, sound is the guiding thread throughout the entire action.
BACKGROUND
Panamby is an artist whose work is created from psychophysical limits, bodily, sonic, and oneiric practices in ritual experiences, apparitions, figures, and visions. Their poetic practice is driven by processes of life–death–life, gestation, gestures, births, and departures as an attempt to touch the invisible, to evoke and communicate through other languages. In the field of sound, their work centers on the voice and on the making of electroacoustic instruments used in compositions, soundtracks, and sonic apparitions. In recent years, they have presented solo and collective works in exhibitions and venues in Brazil, Latin America, and Europe.
